Application: Apparel Distribution/Manufacturing

SIC Code:
Machine: HPR
Solution Option: Servo Controls, Glue and Tape Sealing, Pre-Centering, Light Curtain Sensing
Production Rate:

This customer had two existing Random-Automatic machines from MARQ that had several years under their belts. His increase in throughput and the need to accommodate a packing method prevalent in the apparel industry provoked his need to look at more contemporary solutions. His confidence level in the MARQ equipment provided his exclusive avenue to the new solution.

Requirements:
· In a random delivery of boxes, he required a 75% increase in speeds compared to standard speeds available in the market. (Speed)

· His orders could consist of any quantity of clothing, this would at times allow a considerable void in the box. This would not allow the tape and dispensing device to provide a secure consistent seal on the large box. (Sealing Solution)

Payback:
· To allow only two machines to provide sealing methods of multiple lines of cases and not require manual labor or additional machines to keep up with throughput. This provided labor dollars to justify the purchase of these special engineered solutions.

· With the voided box's inconsistent sealing, there was damage and pilferage that added to payback with the elimination of this issue.

MARQ Solution and Advantages:
By implementing the recent technology of a complete servo operated machine, a pre-centering section that sized up on the case and allowed the machine to immediately except the next box the speed requirement was met and potentially exceeded. To enhance these processes, a light curtain was used to scan the box to tell the pre-centering and machine what size box was going to go into the machine next. This allowed for reduced or eliminated cycle time when a duplicate size box was requiring sealing.

The use of a glue system in the beginning of the sealing process allowed the flaps to be tacked and held more securely for final sealing with the tamper resistant pressure sensitive carton sealing tape.
