Application: Consumer Food Products

SIC Code: 3556
Machine: HPR
Solution Option: Special infeed major flap folder and case top support/drive system
Production Rate:

Initially the customer knew that their case height, which was greater than the case width or length, would present problems for most conventional sealing machines. The customer would also be using the cases as a final product display in high end department stores. Emphasis would be placed on the quality of presentation and high consistency of sealing the cases.

MARQ was asked to produce a random case sealer that could consistently seal the taller cases.
Particular attention would be focused on keeping the case square and the top flaps aligned with consistent adhesion. The cases would require high presentation quality for retail displays. Removing tape from poorly sealed cases would render the cases unusable. Tape removal had already proven to be too costly with conventional sealing machines.

MARQ's solution was a Top & Bottom tape sealing Random case sealer with side lug drive. The servo operated random provided a low maintenance and a hydraulic fluid free environment for the presentation quality cases. Consistency was easy to achieve with MARQ's custom designed infeed flap folding section and standard case centering mechanism—which would stabilize the taller cases for perfect sealing. To further insure that the cases remained presentation square, MARQ added a top belt drive to align the top flaps prior to sealing.

MARQ was chosen for this application because competitors could not engineer a machine that would insure case consistency and offer low maintenance. MARQ's reputation for focusing on the application and providing an engineered solution was a strong reassurance for the customer. Payback for the project came from uptime and lack of maintenance needed to keep machine not only running but applying tape the way it should be to protect the box and give it enhanced shelf presentation. Additional payback came in the secondary issue of damaged cases—typically cases that had to be unpacked and discarded. MARQ quality and consistency generated savings with the corrugated and repack labor.
